Peek-a-Boo Slot Canyon, Escalante Grand Staircase National Monument
I shot this pic just as we were beginning our hike from the parking lot down into the canyon that has several slot canyons including Dry Forks Narrows, Peek-a-Boo and Spooky Gulch
Bob shot this picture of Slade (ahead) and me partway down into the Canyon. Of course, we had to climb out of here after doing Peek-a-Boo.
This is the first narrow canyon you come to, "Dry Forks Narrows."
Joe and me. Shot by Bob,
We soon turned around because it was getting late in the day and we still wanted to at least do part of Peek-a-Boo. Bob shot this. Bob's photo.
Bob shot the entrance of Peek-a-Boo. It's up in that crooked "V," about 15 feet off the ground. That would require a perilous climb, made worse by the big mud puddle below. The puddle was about mid-calf deep - not inviting.
Someone told us that the trail that follows the base of rock cliff above would take you around to where you could drop into Peek-a-Boo about at its mid-point
We got too high so I did a butt slide down. Obviously Bob's photo because Don had his hands full.
This is about the middle of Peek-a-Boo. This is the narrowist slot canyon that I have been in and it was a ball. If you are cloustrophobic you don't want to be in there.
Joe is going in and I am following behind. Bob shot this pic.
Bob shot this pic as I was starting down into the slot. I was wishing I had lost about 20 pounds mostly around my waist.
Bob has now entered the slot behing me and I filmed him coming down the canyon. Notice how he could barely get one leg by the other.
This is the canyon ahead of me
Bob has now gone ahead
We got close to the entrance, but found some mud puddles just inside the front entrance. So we turned around and walked back. Joe and Bob wanted to by-pass the really narrow part so found a place to get up and out of the canyon. They got back in on the other side of the narrow part.
I march on to the narrow part. Just as I started back through, I heard someone else coming my way. So, I backed up to let them through. Our team all met up on the other side of the really narrow section and then walked out to the end and exited there.
