A1AZT01SouthToBorder The location of this hike (at the arrowhead) A2AZT01SouthHike to Border The GPS track of the hike (the red line) A3AZT01SouthHike to Border The yellow line is the whole Passage 1 of the AZT 9A4aAZT01SouthToBorder Google Earth display of our track from Montezuma Pass to the border
IMG 3376-HDR The parking lot at Montezuma Pass. Notice the 4 border patrol vehicles, 2 with side-looking radar scannnig for illegals P1050193-HDR Suzanne got a better picture of the border patrol vehicles IMG 3378-HDR Looking east from Montezuma Pass. Coronado came up that valley you see beyond the hills IMG 3380-HDR Looking to the south into Mexico
IMG 3381-HDR After some initial up, the trail starts down to the border IMG 3384-HDR(3) A storm cell on the horizon IMG 3387-HDR(3) IMG 3390-HDR(3)
IMG 3397-HDR We spot some white objects off in the distance. Are these border markers? IMG 3394-HDR Zooning in, one looks like a camper shell and the other looks like a tank for holding water IMG 3402-HDR(3) The trail follows the side of the hill on the right IMG 3405-HDR(3) Suzanne is up ahead
IMG 3408-HDR(3) She just reaached the border marker - our distination IMG 3417-HDR(3) She begins to drop her pack to take a closer look IMG 3411-HDR(3) Here is the info on the marker IMG 3414-HDR(3) A nearby sign
P1050202-HDR Here comes an undocumented alien from Mexico, sneaking through a hole in the fence. Is this John McCain's idea of a "danged" fence? Or is this the fence that Mexico has starting constucting for "The Donald?" IMG 3420-HDR(3) The fence is clearly on the US side of the border, so Suzanne slips through the hole to stand on the border IMG 3438-HDR(3) Don on the border IMG 3441-HDR(3) Suzanne on the border
IMG 3441-8-HDR(3) Photoshop puts them both together on the border IMG 3465-HDR(3) We can see the same two structure from here. Yep. One is a truck camper body and the other looks like some type of reservior IMG 3466-HDR Near the other two objects is a structure under constructions IMG 3471-HDR(3) We go back up the trail a piece to find a place to sit and have a snack.
IMG 3474-HDR(3) This is the trail on back toward the car IMG 3477-HDR(3) On the drive back we spot Sunnyside Lane and explore it and quickly spot some deer. We discover that SL will give us another access to the first part of Passage 1. After this, we head on to Sonoita stopping at a winery near Elgin to pick out some AZ wine to take back for Don's house guest that are arriving this weekend. Then it's lunch in Sonoita and and the long drive back to the valley.
