April 12, 2016; Don & Suzanne; In-and-out; ~ 4 miles roundtrip
The location of this hike (at the arrowhead)
The GPS track of the hike (the red line)
The yellow line is the whole Passage 1 of the AZT
Google Earth display of our track from Montezuma Pass to the border
The parking lot at Montezuma Pass. Notice the 4 border patrol vehicles, 2 with side-looking radar scannnig for illegals
Suzanne got a better picture of the border patrol vehicles
Looking east from Montezuma Pass. Coronado came up that valley you see beyond the hills
Looking to the south into Mexico
After some initial up, the trail starts down to the border
A storm cell on the horizon

We spot some white objects off in the distance. Are these border markers?
Zooning in, one looks like a camper shell and the other looks like a tank for holding water
The trail follows the side of the hill on the right
Suzanne is up ahead
She just reaached the border marker - our distination
She begins to drop her pack to take a closer look
Here is the info on the marker
A nearby sign
Here comes an undocumented alien from Mexico, sneaking through a hole in the fence. Is this John McCain's idea of a "danged" fence? Or is this the fence that Mexico has starting constucting for "The Donald?"
The fence is clearly on the US side of the border, so Suzanne slips through the hole to stand on the border
Don on the border
Suzanne on the border
Photoshop puts them both together on the border
We can see the same two structure from here. Yep. One is a truck camper body and the other looks like some type of reservior
Near the other two objects is a structure under constructions
We go back up the trail a piece to find a place to sit and have a snack.
This is the trail on back toward the car
On the drive back we spot Sunnyside Lane and explore it and quickly spot some deer. We discover that SL will give us another access to the first part of Passage 1. After this, we head on to Sonoita stopping at a winery near Elgin to pick out some AZ wine to take back for Don's house guest that are arriving this weekend. Then it's lunch in Sonoita and and the long drive back to the valley.
