For this hike we parked at the SnowBowl ski area parknig lot where the Mt. Humphreys summit trail begins. The SnowBowl is just off highway 180 about 30 minutes north of Flagstaff. We left Mesa at 6 am and were ready to hike at 9 am. We took the Mt. Humphreys trail about 3 miles to the seventh switchback where we left the trail and went cross-country to our destination, the site where a US Air Force B-24 bomber had crashed into the mountain while it was on a night training flight on September 15, 1944. All eight crewmen were killed.
