10WestStrongholdDragoonMtsAnnotated Where we hiked DragoonMtsWSlavinGulchAnnoted Slavin Mine Our GPS track near the mine (red line) superimposed on GoogleEarth. You can easily make out the truck-loading area where we shot lots of pictures, the ore chute, the tailings dump and the other road into the upper action area of the mining operation. DSC 3208-HDR(3) We come to our first (unexpected) stream IMG 4524-HDR(3) P1000665-HDR IMG 4527-HDR(3)
IMG 4530-HDR(3) We hear a small water fall. OK, so it's not Niagra Falls, but technically a falls. Underwhelming. IMG 4531-HDR We look back down the valley we came up. IMG 4536-HDR(3) Now we begin to climb. Slavin Gulch is on our left; it carries a small stream. IMG 4537-HDR Another GRAND falls. See it?

IMG 4545-HDR(3) OK, now the pareidolia begins. See Snoopy in his helmet? And the gorilla with a baby on its right shoulder. IMG 4548-HDR(3) Suzanne is counting away. IMG 4551-HDR(3) Still climbing IMG 4554-HDR(3)

P1000671-HDR A better view IMG 4566-HDR(3) A dynamite hole used for blasting the area to construct the road bed to the mine. IMG 4567-HDR Another one. This one goes about a foot into this rock. DSC 3256-HDR(3)
IMG 4570-HDR DSC 3259-HDR(3) Must be Sea World: Some people watching a dolphin, with a sea lion seeking attention back the way. IMG 4626-HDR(3) It looks better from the side IMG 4623-HDR(3) From the side, it shows Snoopy sitting up.
IMG 4581-HDR(3) The Michelin Man sitting up there IMG 4584-HDR(3) An Orca. Or two? DSC 3274-HDR(3) The remains of an old mining cabin about 1/4 mile before the mine. IMG 4590-HDR(3)
P1000675-HDR Bob with the measuring stick he used to measure the length of the bed. He's an engineer; so of course, he likes data. IMG 4591-HDR IMG 4596-HDR(3) Bob approaching the mine. See the ramains of the wooden chute that brought zinc and copper ore down to road level where it could be trucked down the gulch road and out to Bisbee, AZ. You can make out the remains of the old road bed that Bob is following the trail on. P1000681-HDR Approaching the lower, working part of the mining operation.
IMG 4599-HDR(3) Suzanne's already there DSC 3282-HDR The trucks that were to take the ore to be processed in Bisbee, AZ, were apparently loaded in this area from the chute. IMG 4600-HDR Susan looks up at the lower part of the wooden chute IMG 4605-HDR(3) A look back down the Slavin Gulch. It would have been a wild ride on one of the ore trucks that went down the trail, on their way to deliver their contents to a processing plant in Bisbee.
IMG 4608-HDR(3) DSC 3304-HDR(3) Don looking up at the chute trying to get a good revealing photo of it. IMG 4611-HDR(3) That's what he saw. IMG 4614-HDR(3) Zooming in for detail
IMG 4617-HDR(3) DSC 3307-HDR(3) Bob found an old water storage tank P1000680-HDR Susan found these artifacts IMG 4620-HDR(3) Pondering the Universe
P1000685-HDR P1000686-HDR Don pondering the Universe or trying to get a good photo. After this we started back down the Gulch to the waiting Lexus and then on to Mia Casa Mexican restaurant in Benson, AZ for dinner. Then we still have the drive back to the Phoenix area.
