Looking south as we were going east on Territorial Road near our destination Rock Art Ranch. We had come through this weather going up US 87 from Payson to Winslow. We went through rain, sleet and hail - Suzanne and Oddvar were on their BMW off-road motorcycle. Are we still having fun?
Some of the out buildings at RAR. The one on the right is one of the original bunkhouses of the Hash Knife Cattle Company (the home of the rowdy Hash Knife Gang).
A sign giving background on the Hash Knife bunkhouse.

The ranch owner, Brantley Baird, is our guide. Great guy

A hogan for females in a clan or tribe. Hogans for males are smaller in size.
We make our way over to the hogan in the light rain that was falling

The sun shining through the hole in the top of the hogan onto the interior provided a means of telling the seasons of the year
A matate (grain grinding rock) that was recently revealed by rains on the ranch.
The rock on the metate is the mano that was used to grind the corn.

Now we're out at Chevelon Canyon where Brantley has built steps for entering the canyon and an overlook.

A zoomed shot of a rock at the bottom the canyon - taken from the overlook.
Taken down in the canyon. This bear claw print is a sign of the Bear Claw Clan/Tribe.

We head up canyon first. Bob, Joe, Oddvar & Suzanne find the first collection of petroglyphs

There's a view of the stairs/staircase for entering and leaving the canyon. Joe is eating lunch at the bottom.
We now head down canyon, not straying too far from the steps due to the many storms around us.

There was a sign pointing to an eagle - this is the only one we could find - a rock formation, not a petroglypy. Don't see it (I should have zoomed back)? Check the next photo.
I highlighted the eagle I saw with some dimming of the surrounding rock
Aha! Finally a Kokopelli playing his flute.

Time to head back to the valley. There are storms all around and we don't want to be in a flash flood.Suzanne and Oddvar have now climbed out of the canyon.
On the way back along Territorial Road we have this on our right side (north). We didn't have time to pick up the pots of gold where the railnbow touched down.
