IMG 7243-HDR(3) Looking south as we were going east on Territorial Road near our destination Rock Art Ranch. We had come through this weather going up US 87 from Payson to Winslow. We went through rain, sleet and hail - Suzanne and Oddvar were on their BMW off-road motorcycle. Are we still having fun? IMG 7277-HDR(3) Some of the out buildings at RAR. The one on the right is one of the original bunkhouses of the Hash Knife Cattle Company (the home of the rowdy Hash Knife Gang). IMG 7286-HDR(3) A sign giving background on the Hash Knife bunkhouse. IMG 7294-HDR The ranch owner, Brantley Baird, is our guide. Great guy IMG 7299-HDR(3) IMG 7283-HDR(1)-HDR(1) The porch of the museum housing native american artifacts collected on the ranch property P1040808-HDR

P1040815-HDR A larger Navajo sweat lodge. IMG 7302-HDR(3) IMG 7308-HDR(3) A hogan for females in a clan or tribe. Hogans for males are smaller in size. IMG 7310 HDR We make our way over to the hogan in the light rain that was falling

IMG 7320-HDR(3) The sun shining through the hole in the top of the hogan onto the interior provided a means of telling the seasons of the year IMG 7321-HDR A matate (grain grinding rock) that was recently revealed by rains on the ranch. P1040823-HDR The rock on the metate is the mano that was used to grind the corn. IMG 7326-HDR(3)
IMG 7329-HDR(3) Now we're out at Chevelon Canyon where Brantley has built steps for entering the canyon and an overlook. IMG 7332-HDR(3) P1040824-HDR A zoomed shot of a rock at the bottom the canyon - taken from the overlook. IMG 7337-HDR(1) Taken down in the canyon. This bear claw print is a sign of the Bear Claw Clan/Tribe.
P1040830-HDR An even closer pic IMG 7339-HDR We head up canyon first. Bob, Joe, Oddvar & Suzanne find the first collection of petroglyphs IMG 7347-HDR(3) IMG 7350-HDR(3)

IMG 7368-HDR(3) IMG 7371-HDR(3) There's a view of the stairs/staircase for entering and leaving the canyon. Joe is eating lunch at the bottom. IMG 7374-HDR(3) We now head down canyon, not straying too far from the steps due to the many storms around us. IMG 7377-HDR(3)

IMG 7392-HDR(3) There was a sign pointing to an eagle - this is the only one we could find - a rock formation, not a petroglypy. Don't see it (I should have zoomed back)? Check the next photo. IMG 7392-HDR(3)Highlight I highlighted the eagle I saw with some dimming of the surrounding rock IMG 7395-HDR(3) Aha! Finally a Kokopelli playing his flute. IMG 7401-HDR(3)

IMG 7437-HDRDramatic On the way back along Territorial Road we have this on our right side (north). We didn't have time to pick up the pots of gold where the railnbow touched down.
