BobsPics-DSC 6014-HDR(3) We park the Xterror at a trailhead we didn't know existed prior to our driving by looking for another trail . BobsPics-DSC 6010-HDR(3) We hadn't quite decided where to hike, but this looked like it merited a little exploring IMG 8841-HDR We got a sign. IMG 8844-HDR Suzanne shooting the trailhead map of the area
BobsPics-DSC 6026-HDR It's more readable in Bob's picture BobsPics-DSC 6022-HDR A little history of the area. IMG 8847-HDR We set out on a walk in the woods BobsPics-DSC 6028-HDRcrop Bob captured on digital, some of the wildlife in the area.
IMG 8850-HDR There's an Aspen tree with a crouch - it has the shape of a "Y." IMG 8853-HDR A closer shot IMG 8856-HDR Jenks cabin, where are you? Guess it used to be here. IMG 8859-HDR Remains of the Ludwig Veit Cabin; circa 1890
HAZPaulHubbard2011 Veit Cabin photographed by P. Hubbard and posted on hikearizona.com in 2011 (see http://hikearizona.com/photo.php?ZIP=218184 ) HAZRandallSchulhauser2007 Veit Cabin photographed by R. Schulhauser and posted on hikearizona.com in 2007 (see http://hikearizona.com/photo.php?ZIP=39804) . Once the logs begin to rot, the winter snow loads in this area must take a heavy toll. BobsPics-DSC 6036-HDR(3) Suzanne walking by a spring house with a cistern/spring inside, probably built by Veit. SuzannesPics-20190723 102746-HDR The pic that Suzanne shot as she was walking by on one of the many trails that criss-cross the area.
IMG 8868-HDR A flash shot taken looking in the door. IMG 8871-HDR Another spring house - cistern/spring inside. BobsPics-DSC 6039-HDR(3) A better shot IMG 8877-HDR OK, we found the 3rd spring-the Veit Spring. Supposed to be some pictographs around here. Where are they Suzanne?
IMG 8880-HDR Look up above you. Perused Patterson's "A Field Guide to Rock Art Symbols of the Greater Southwest," but, other than the human-like figure on the left side and the squiggly lines which often represent snakes, could find nothing quite like the figure on the right. So your guess is as good as ours. BobsPics-DSC 6046-HDR Another set of "rock art" nearby. IMG 8888-HDR(3) A handprint nearby IMG 8889-HDR Another handprint.
IMG 8903-HDR(3) Some of the beautiful, natural patina on the rock faces around Veit Springs and the rock art. BobsPics-DSC 6048-HDR BobsPics-DSC 6052-HDR(3) BobsPics-DSC 6055-HDR(3)
IMG 8891-HDR(3) IMG 8892-HDR Looking back into one of the cave-like formations closeby. IMG 8905-HDR Time to leave - it's beginning to sprinkle IMG 8911-HDR The dam that impounds the "Lower Pond"
IMG 8913-HDR Saw of couple of these along the trail, ???? IMG 8917-HDR Some wild flowers along the return trail.
