The denseness of the arms makes it very difficult to count the number of arms, so we instituted a rigorous and redundant procedure of counting the arms on each main arm and on the upper reaches of the trunk, while Cheri kept each count on her iPhone (maybe there is an app for arm counting, we didn't look).
